Analytical Skills and Practical Knowledge of ABM Students in the Basic Concepts of Financial Management: Basis for an Intervention Plan

Abstract

This study seeks to assess the analytical skills and practical knowledge of ABM students in understanding the basic concepts of financial management. There were 3 public schools and 109 senior high school students who were involved in this study from three schools. The study made use quantitative descriptive research utilizing a researcher-made survey questionnaire. Data were analyzed mean, standard deviation, analysis of variance and Pearson R correlation. Results of the study showed ABM students’ analytical skills in basic concepts in financial management is good. ABM students’ practical knowledge in basic concepts in financial management is good. There is a significant difference on the assessment of analytical skills of ABM students in in the basic concepts of financial management when grouped according to age and grade level. There a significant difference on the assessment of practical knowledge of ABM students in the basic concepts of financial management when grouped according to age, grade level and family income. The study recommends that propensity for analytical, mathematical, and communication abilities is required of ABM students. Teachers and students must collaborate achieve their goal of a higher degree of analytical skills and practical knowledge in basic concepts in financial management. The Department of Education might view the inclusion of courses on financial management in the curriculum as essential. Further studies may be conducted to validate the results of the study.
