Abstract

Titanium biomaterials have become an indispensable part of medical application, especially in dentistry in the form of dental implants and superstructure due to its corrosion resistance biocompatibility and osseointegration properties. Titanium and its alloys, mainly vanadium, aluminium, titanium are used in the manufacture of implants, hybrid prosthesis and metal frameworks. As a result of its improved physical properties, titanium and its alloys are used in medical applications. However, recently some studies have reported allergic reactions due to titanium implants. Titanium undergoes tribocorrosion in the oral cavity that leads to release of titanium ions in the surrounding tissues and its accumulation manifests as allergic reactions such as allergic contact stomatitis.
