The Digital Divide in Kenya’s Education Sector: A Looming Threat to Achieving Equality and Equity in Employment Opportunities – A Critical Literature Review
Abstract
The digital divide in Kenya’s education system remains a significant challenge, exacerbating inequalities in access to quality education and, consequently, employment opportunities. This literature review critically examines the disparities in digital to education access across different socio-economic, geographic, and institutional settings, exploring their implications for equality and equity in the labor market. The study highlights key barriers, including inadequate infrastructure, limited ICT resources in public schools, socio-economic constraints, and digital literacy gaps. Additionally, it assesses policy interventions and initiatives aimed at bridging the digital divide, evaluating their effectiveness and limitations. The review underscores the urgent need for comprehensive strategies that integrate digital inclusion into Kenya’s education system to foster equitable employment opportunities. Addressing this divide is crucial to ensuring that all learners, regardless of background, can compete fairly in an increasingly digital job market.
